DECOMPRESS EXPRESS
Curated by Niels F. Rodenburg

Life is filled with choices and paths to take; from what dinner you’ll cook today to the route you have to take to a meeting. But STOP! THINK NO MORE!

Throughout the festival, Niels F. Rodenburg has curated a collection of tranquilizing trainride tapes, seen from the driver’s perspective. A fixed route, beautiful scenery, and most of all, a path chosen for you, so you can sit, relax and unwind. From the mountains in Switzerland to the lush nature of Vietnam, no ride will be the same!

Traveling by train is not only healthy for the environment, it’s also a step away from the fast pace of daily life. You might not be at your destination in 20 minutes, but as the cliché goes: the journey is part of the travel as well! The route is fixed, there are no decisions to be made, and you have no choice but to give up a bit of control and sit back.

In the last few years, platforms such as YouTube have seen a rise in videos of these rides, mostly filmed from the driver’s cabin. The meditativeness of the rails, framed by the beautiful surroundings of nature, small villages and an occasionally big city, have a relaxing effect on the viewer, who might use the clips as background for their chores, arts and crafts, or simply to fall asleep to.

During the festival, in between the regular film program, you’ll have the chance to enter the Decompress Express, get yourself a seat in the cinema, and unwind whilst watching beautiful train rides from all over the world. You might even want to get a snack from the rail-catering along the way. All aboard!
